Your grandparents had one, so did your parents, and now it’s your turn, as the all-new Holden Commodore is finally launched. And, just as Australian drivers have evolved and progressed over the past 40 years, so has the iconic Commodore with cutting-edge technology at the forefront of Holden’s new hero.

With 40 years of applied learnings, the all-new Commodore feels like a leap forward while retaining its unmistakable Aussie DNA offering a long list of Commodore firsts sure to set Australian driver pulses racing.

Designed for the ultimate in driver confidence, wet road performance and an effortless launch, Commodore’s all-new Adaptive All-Wheel-Drive (AWD) is standard on all 3.6-litre models and provides new-generation, state-of-the-art Twinster technology. The twin clutch system reads road inputs up to 100 times per second and distributes power between front and rear axles and laterally between rear axles. In short, Commodore’s Adaptive AWD system makes sure the most effective wheels are driving the vehicle at all times.

There’s also other goodies such as a 360-degree camera that gives the driver a bird’s eye view of the car to help in those awkward parks or tight space maneuvers. Add to that, Advanced Park Assist takes control of the steering in parallel and perpendicular parks and there’s not much left for unconfident parkers to fear!

Holden’s premium LED Matrix headlights are back too, and this time, they’re bigger, brighter and better than before. A staggering 32 LED light system work seamlessly together to track around road corners, dip down in sections to avoid dazzling oncoming drivers or pedestrians and effectively turn night into day. They also do a fancy dancing light show on start up because, well, why not?

Commodore’s Handsfree Power Tailgate takes it to the next level, allowing drivers to open the vehicle boot with a simple kick motion. But that’s not the only cool bit. To help make sure the driver’s kick is in the right place, Commodore beams down a Batman-style Holden logo to aim at. No Bat-phone required.

“Commodore has been at the forefront of delivering new driver technology to Australians for the past 40 years and the 2018 Commodore elevates that to the next level,” said Holden’s Executive Director – Marketing, Mark Harland. “We’ve got genuine state-of-the-art technology such as the LED Matrix headlights and Adaptive AWD but also a long list of user friendly features such as heated and cooled seats, massage driver’s seat and colour head-up display.

“In terms of safety, Commodore delivers in spades with a 5-star ANCAP rating, Emergency Braking, auto headlights and rear-view camera available as standard across the entire range. And with the range starting at just $35,990 driveaway, it all adds up to phenomenal value for money for our customers.”

The 2018 Commodore has been the recipient of significant Holden engineering input, designed to ensure the car has the distinctive and engaging feel Australians expect from a Commodore. High-tech driving aides, in addition to years of experience tuning every Commodore from the 1998 VT Commodore onwards, have resulted in Holden’s Lead Dynamics Engineer, Rob Trubiani, being confident this is undoubtedly a driver’s car.

“We’ve spent a lot of time making sure the new Commodore has the feel and handling you’d expect from a Commodore,” said Trubiani. “We’ve worked on some unique content, including a distinctive Aussie steering tune to give it that familiar feel but it’s the adaptive AWD that impresses most.

“The adaptive Twinster AWD system gives Commodore traction to a level it’s never had before. In the wet, it sticks to the road like glue and in the dry, it feels like it’s running on rails which is great for giving drivers confidence that when they turn the wheel, they know exactly where the car will go and what it will do.”

The all-new Holden Commodore will be available from Holden dealers nationwide from late February 2018 with customers encouraged to go and see for themselves what all the fuss is about.

STANDOUT STATE-OF-THE-ART TECH FEATURES

  • Remote Start – start the vehicle before you get in to give the climate control a head start. Great for hot summer days.
  • Advanced Park Assist – can’t park to save your life? The 2018 Commodore will do it for you with the push of a button!
  • Handsfree power tailgate – everybody likes the challenge of trying to carry all the food shopping bags into the house in one go but, closing the car boot can sometimes scupper that dream. A kick of the foot takes that problem away in Tourer and Sportwagon. Game on.
  • Adaptive AWD – the 2018 Commodore’s all-wheel-drive system reads the road 100 times per second to ensure the most effective wheels are engaged.
  • Wireless phone charging – because wires are so 2017.
  • Colour Head-up display – further developed since its introduction on VF Commodore, head-up display allows drivers to see their speed, navigation and more on the windscreen, which means more time with eyes on the road.
  • Adaptive LED Matrix Headlights – they dance on hello, bend around corners and block out oncoming cars to avoid dazzling drivers. Who knew lights could be cool?
  • 360-degree camera – Commodore’s front and rear camera is also supplemented by two side cameras to give drivers a bird’s eye view of the car during tricky maneuvers.

Independent vehicle safety authority, ANCAP, released its first safety rating for the year, awarding 5 stars to the Holden Commodore. The first imported Commodore model arrives onto the Australasian market with high safety scores.

“The vehicle scored well, achieving solid results across all areas of assessment,” said ANCAP Chief Executive, James Goodwin. “Australian families and fleet buyers have long regarded the Commodore as a trusted local choice and the shift to overseas supply has further enhanced the model’s safety credentials,” he said.

“This next generation Commodore includes safety assist technologies not seen in its locally-produced predecessor, with standard-fit features such as autonomous emergency braking and active lane-keep assist. This year we see a fresh approach to vehicle safety assessment and the presentation of results,” Goodwin said.

The ZB Holden Commodore achieved the following scores across the four key areas of assessment:

  • 93 per cent - Adult Occupant Protection
  • 85 per cent - Child Occupant Protection
  • 78 per cent - Pedestrian Protection
  • 77 per cent - Safety Assist

The Commodore shares its structure with that of the Opel/Vauxhall Insignia supplied to Europe, with locallysupplied variants offering comparable safety performance. A 5 star ANCAP safety rating applies to all Commodore liftback, sportwagon and tourer variants available across Australia and New Zealand.

The last thing any family wants to do ahead of their annual road trip this summer is worry about the safety of their car. Well, with the new Holden Equinox, families don’t have to and can focus on the important things in life – road trip snacks; BBQ or Pizza flavoured Shapes anybody?

It’s all because Holden’s newest SUV, Equinox, has bagged itself a five-star ANCAP safety rating – the maximum available – following multiple local crash tests performed recently.

“Safety is Holden’s number one priority, especially for family vehicles like Equinox. I’m a parent of three and I know the peace of mind a five-star rating, and a car packed with safety features, can bring,” said Holden’s Vehicle Safety Manager, Lindsay Mitchell. “Equinox packs a huge amount of high-tech user-friendly safety features that are designed to be used frequently and intuitively without being confusing or overwhelming.

“I personally love Equinox’s Safety Alert Seats* that give the driver a small vibration on the side of the seat a hazard is present. It works really well, especially when you’ve got the kids in the back screaming over the car’s beeps!”

The key to Equinox’s impressive safety credentials is its combination of active and passive safety features, designed to prevent accidents and protect occupants during accidents respectively. On the active safety front, the intelligent Holden Eye* forward facing camera provides Equinox with Auto Emergency Braking, Lane Keep Assist and Forward Collision Alert amongst other features. Equinox also boasts automatic headlights and automatic high-beam dipping to avoid dazzling other drivers.

Passive safety includes six airbags and two ISOFIX child seat attachment points.

To check out the new Holden Equinox’s safety features, customers are encouraged to visit their local Holden dealer with those that buy this year receiving an industry leading seven-year warranty and capped price servicing.

Safe to say, now is a great time to get into an Equinox.

The all-new Holden Equinox, Australia’s most user-friendly SUV, has been put to the test by Australia’s motoring experts ahead of going on sale and bolstering Holden’s growing SUV line-up. Holden Chairman and Managing Director, Mark Bernhard said, with the all-new Equinox, Holden is responding to changing Australian buyer habits while delivering all the high-tech features and exceptional vehicle dynamics Holden has built its name on.

“Holden already has a strong SUV line up with Captiva, Trax and Trailblazer and now the Equinox takes it to another level. We have an SUV for every lifestyle and still have the Acadia coming later next year,” Bernhard said. “The all-new Equinox is a world-class SUV with an enviable blend of technology, performance and practicality. It also boasts incredible value for money, falling into our seven-year warranty offer until the end of 2017.

“We’re confident Aussies will love Equinox, in fact, we expect it and our other SUVs to account for about 35 per cent of our sales in the future.”

EQUINOX IS PURPOSE-BUILT TO PERFORM

Available at Holden dealers from early December, Equinox launches with two standout turbo-petrol engines (diesel to launch in 2018). With exceptional leading fuel economy, the 1.5-litre turbo-petrol with six-speed manual/auto uses just 6.9L/100km while offering 127kW power and 275Nm torque.

For drivers that want a little more oomph, there’s the stunning, class-leading 2.0-litre turbo-petrol with 9-speed auto, capable of producing 188kW and 353Nm – enough to propel Equinox to 100kph in just over seven seconds.

Equinox’s impressive performance is also underpinned by an adaptive All-Wheel-Drive system† that provides incredible stability, traction and handling. The advanced system uses both pre-emptive and feedback control to precisely control the amount of torque going to the rear wheels, delivered through an electro-hydraulic clutch pack mounted to the rear differential. Monitoring vehicle speeds and throttle position amongst other things, the system can predict the exact amount of torque that is required, ultimately providing the driver with confident handling to provide peace of mind.

Working at Holden’s Lang Lang proving ground and on test trips to North America, Holden engineers have developed unique Australian suspension hardware, damper tune and EPS steering calibrations.

“We’ve worked closely with the team in the US to make sure Equinox has all of the attributes to perform on Australian roads, sealed or unsealed,” said Holden’s Lead Development Engineer for Equinox, Tony Metaxas. “Not only do we have the most power and torque in the segment, we’ve got unique front and rear sway bars, front handling bush, front ride bush and rear lower control arm bushes, all of which work to give drivers a more connected and engaging driving experience.

“Combined with a beautifully weighted, confidence-inspiring steering tune, Equinox is a great SUV for the daily commute and rewards those that venture beyond the city limits.”

AUSTRALIA’S MOST USER-FRIENDLY SUV

Equinox’s credentials go far beyond a strong powertrain lineup and further establish Holden’s focus on user-friendly technology. Making its debut on Equinox is Holden’s Safety Alert driver’s seat which gives drivers a small vibration to alert them of potential hazards. The new safety seat system joins a long list of active safety features including Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB), Lane Keep Assist and Blind Spot Alert.

“Safety Alert driver’s seat, as well as automatic park assist and AEB† are three standout features that will give drivers peace of mind and help mitigate collisions,” said Metaxas.

There’s also an impressive list of comfort and convenience technology additions such as wireless mobile phone charging*, automatic park assist and a kick-motion hands-free power tailgate, all working to make life and the latest adventure that little bit more enjoyable. Equinox also boasts exceptional practicality with segment leading storage space totaling 1798-litres with its 60:40 split fold-flat seats folded down.

Equinox will go on sale December 2017 with customers encouraged to register their interest on the Holden website for the latest info and offers.

Designed and engineered alongside its hatch sibling, at Opel’s Russelsheim headquarters, and built in the UK at Vauxhall’s Ellesmere Port manufacturing facility, Astra Sportwagon benefits from the same tuning setup as the hatch, co-developed by the Holden team over multiple European testing drives.

“Astra Sportwagon gives our customers a real alternative to small SUVs. It’s got the space and practicality you’d expect of an SUV but with the style and performance of the award-winning Astra Hatch,” said Holden’s Executive Director – Sales, Michael Filazzola. “Astra Sportwagon is also packed to the brim with technology, like Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, automatic park and a kick-gesture power tailgate which is great when your hands are full with the week’s grocery shop!”

Holden has lifted the covers on the range-topping VXR variant of the next-generation Holden Commodore.

With a focus on dynamic handling, efficient performance and stunning traction off the line, Commodore VXR will show a different side to Holden’s performance capabilities while still using lessons learned from almost 40 years of continuous local Commodore development.

Differentiating the VXR as the jewel in the next-generation Commodore crown, the range-topping model boasts Brembo front brakes and a unique sports set-up allowing drivers to switch between driving modes. Driver-adjustable settings include Continuous Damping Control (CDC), steering, transmission and the adaptive AWD system.

“The next-gen Commodore VXR offers a different execution of performance to the outgoing SS but make no mistake, this is a more than worthy successor,” said Holden’s renowned Lead Dynamics Engineer, Rob Trubiani.

“We’ve been involved in the development of this car from the beginning and I personally have spent significant time behind the wheel overseas and at Holden’s Lang Lang proving ground.

“The V6 engine with the adaptive AWD and 9-speed transmission make the VXR a quick and smooth car to drive, even in wet conditions. Importantly we also have Brembo front brakes and Continuous Damping Control (CDC) and drivers are able to switch between three driving modes for distinctly different drive experiences.

“We can’t wait to get the car in the hands of our customers next year but for now, we’ve still got some work to do and will continue to work with the team in Europe, who are currently completing chassis development at Nürburgring in Germany.”

The next-generation Commodore VXR also adds sports styling to its ‘Sculptural Artistry Meets German Precision’ design language with bespoke 20-inch alloy wheels, larger rear spoiler, front and rear sports fascias and premium VXR sill plates.

Other highlights include next-generation adaptive LED Matrix headlights, heated and ventilated leather performance front seats, a wealth of cutting-edge driver assistance technology. The next-generation Commodore VXR will be on sale alongside the rest of the sedan range, along with Sportwagon and Tourer body styles, in early 2018.

Holden has announced the all-new Astra Sportwagon will be heading to Australia to join the recently launched Astra hatch and the recently announced Astra sedan to complete Holden’s most advanced small car range ever.

Following its popularity with European customers, and utilizing the same design language as the award-winning Astra Hatch, the incoming Astra Sportwagon boasts a spritely 1.4-litre turbo engine with six-speed automatic transmission and stop/start technology across the range.

Arguably the greatest attraction for adventuring families is Astra Sportwagon’s internal storage, with over 1,600L of boot space ensuring even the most indecisive of luggage packers is taken care of. Precious cargo is protected by a full suite of active safety technology including Auto Emergency Braking, Lane Keep Assist and Forward Collision Alert in addition to a Rear View Camera. Astra Sportwagon’s technology also extends beyond safety with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, hands-free power tailgate and passive entry/push-button start, combining for ultimate driver convenience.

Holden’s Executive Director – Sales, Michael Filazzola, said Astra Sportwagon provides style, space and technology to customers whilst not sacrificing the engaging driving dynamics Astra has built its reputation on.

“With Astra Sportwagon joining Astra hatch and Astra sedan, we’re making sure there’s an exciting and desirable Holden small car to suit any taste or circumstance,” said Filazzola. “Astra Sportwagon gives customers the best of all worlds with sleek, stylish design and impressive interior space, all supported by a wealth of driving and infotainment technology.”

Astra Sportwagon will be the thirteenth new vehicle to be launched since Holden’s 2015 commitment to introduce 24 new models by 2020. Holden’s new model onslaught also includes a further three vehicles confirmed; Equinox, Acadia and the next-generation Commodore.

Just weeks before hitting showrooms, pricing has been confirmed for Holden’s all-new Astra Sedan, starting at just $21,990 driveaway. That’s $21,990 driveaway for Holden’s newest, world-class small car with a five star ANCAP rating, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and a rear view camera as standard. Not to mention with sleek new design, Aussie engineering and Lifetime Capped Price servicing for the full ownership experience.

“We’re really proud of the new Astra Sedan, not just because of its long list of features and comfortable drive but also for its outstanding customer value both at purchase and throughout ownership,” said Holden Managing Director, Mark Bernhard. “Launching with $21,990 driveaway puts Astra right at the pointy end of small-car segment pricing and then when you consider Capped Price Servicing totaling only $916 for the first three years or 60,000km, customers can be sure they’ve got a great deal and will be well looked after.”

Offered in four trim levels – LS, LS+, LT and LTZ – Astra Sedan packs the same sharp but frugal 1.4-litre turbocharged engine that has proven popular in the Astra hatch. The turbocharged engine, boasting 110kW and up to 245Nm of torque, is mated to a six-speed automatic transmission with active select. Manual transmission is also available on the LS model.

Signature Holden Dynamics

Complementing its impressive powertrain, Astra Sedan has also received the magic touch from Holden’s talented engineering group. In-depth local testing in and around Holden’s Lang Lang proving ground has ensured Astra Sedan exhibits the refinement and composure displayed by its sporty sibling.

“We’ve developed a unique steering tune for Astra which gives it a more balanced and responsive feel and, ultimately, adds to the drivers’ confidence in the car,” said Holden’s Lead Dynamics Engineer, Rob Trubiani. “We also tuned the car’s suspension dampers and chassis controls to make sure Astra feels safe and comfortable on long journeys, but inspiring to drive through the corners.”

Customers Demand USer-Friendly Technology

As with all new Holdens, technology is a big part of the car and in Astra Sedan it’s as user-friendly and intuitive as ever.

“We know our customers place great importance on in-car technology but they also don’t want to be overwhelmed by it,” said Bernhard. “Customers want to be able to drive with ease and in comfort and know that if they want to listen to their music, it’s safe and easy. If they need to make a call or search directions, it’s easy. That’s where Astra Sedan excels.”

With the intuitive Apple CarPlay and Android Auto offered as standard and supported by a 7-inch or 8-inch colour touch screen customers’ music, call and navigation needs are well looked after. Other interior tech goodies include push-button start, satellite navigation and a wealth of active safety features*.

Another easy-to-use bit of user-friendly technology is Advanced Park Assist which allows customers to drive alongside a car parking space, push a button and then take control of the pedals while the car handles the steering. That means no more multiple attempts and no more main street parking stress.
