The all-new Suzuki Swift Sport made its Australian debut at the official press launch at the State Motorcycle Sports Complex in Broadford Victoria. Australian Media professionals were given the opportunity to race down straights and hug corners in Suzuki’s hot new Turbo-charged hatch and also had the pleasure of witnessing Australian Superbike Champion, Josh Waters, scream around the track on his full race spec Suzuki GSX-R1000R. Josh Waters is the official Team Suzuki Superbike Racer and avid ambassador of the Suzuki brand; having Josh at the media launch was a nod to Suzuki’s sporting DNA across its product lines with both the GSX-R1000R and Swift Sport racing back to back on the Broadford race track.

The latest generation of the Swift Sport brings with it a myriad of changes which include a BOOSTERJET direct injection turbo engine, a lower and wider stance, aggressive styling, and new safety and technological features which catapult the Sport into true hot hatch territory.

Swift Sport’s 1.4L BOOSTERJET direct injection turbo engine boasts 7-hole injector nozzles enabling higher pressure and atomised fuel injection for more powerful engine output and a cleaner exhaust, while the sophisticated wastegate valve control constantly monitors boost pressure to minimise fuel consumption whilst cruising, offering a fuel consumption of just 6.1L/100km.*

The pairing of the BOOSTERJET engine which offers high torque from low revs with the Swift Sport’s compact dimensions and a kerb weight that’s sub one-tonne should be music to the ears of sports-minded drivers. The astounding torque-to-weight ratio is sure to get owners temperature rising with an 80kg lighter total kerb weight over the outgoing model and 230Nm of torque, approximately 4.2kg/Nm.

Swift Sport chief engineer Masao Kobori said, “We know that our customers value a dynamic driving experience above everything else, so for the third-generation Swift Sport our development concept was Ultimate Driving Excitement.”

“We've made the all-new Swift Sport lighter, faster and more stimulating in every way!” continued Kobori.

With rally inspired styling and a low and wide wheelbase the all-new Swift Sport is sure to turn heads. Featuring an aggressive staggered black honeycomb grille, thin spoke 17-inch polished alloy wheels, dual exhausts, LED headlamps, daytime running lights and fog lamps. Carbon fibre look front bumper highlights, under spoiler, side skirts and rear diffuser complete the standout design.

The sporty elements of the all-new Swift Sport continue when one opens the door. Semi-bucket seats embossed with the a “Sport” logo, red stitching throughout, a D-shaped dimpled leather steering, red highlights across the dash and sports alloy pedals instantly fill the driver with adrenalin.

Whilst power and appearance were key considerations of the all-new Swift Sport, the standard list of safety and technological equipment is equally as impressive. The Swift Sport boasts keyless start and entry, electric folding mirrors, driver multi information colour LCD, climate control, 7-inch multi-touch colour display unit with sat-nav, Bluetooth and USB connectivity, reverse camera, Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto.®

Swift Sport rests on the HEARTECT platform, a new generation Suzuki platform that delivers enhanced fundamental vehicle performance due to being light and highly rigid. In addition to adopting the new HEARTECT platform Swift Sport features Suzuki’s TECT (Total Effective Control Technology) body which is designed to absorb and disperse energy should a collision occur.

Swift Sport has been awarded a 5-star ANCAP safety rating and features 6 airbags and electronic stability control. In addition, advanced preventative safety features include autonomous emergency braking, lane departure warning, weaving alert, high beam assist and adaptive cruise control.

Capped Price Servicing provides peace of mind to owners with scheduled maintenance service costs capped for 5 years or 100,000km. Additionally when customers service their Suzuki vehicle under the Capped Price program for 5 years, Suzuki will extend the vehicles Warranty from 3 to 5 years providing customers with further reassurance and peace of mind.

With five colour choices, pure white pearl, champion yellow, super black pearl, mineral grey and speedy blue and a choice of a 6-speed auto (with paddle shift) or 6-speed manual transmission, the all-new Swift Sport is priced from a competitive $25,490 RRP for manual and from $27,490 RRP for auto.

Suzuki Australia Automobiles General Manager, Michael Pachota said, “The New Swift Sport maintains everyday usability, is aggressive and full of emotion. Our flagship model, we can confidently say has evolved into the true HOT HATCH.”

“The SWIFT SPORT has already taken the Japanese sports hatch enthusiast market by storm, headlining many auto performance enhancement brands with their take on the new Swift Sport in recent Auto Shows. The 3rd generation Swift Sport dominated by offering, again to the market, what the world experienced with the SWIFT GTI in the late 80’s and all through the 90’s and I have no doubt it will do the same in Australia in 2018 and beyond - every racetrack across the country will be sure to have its name on it.” said Pachota.

The All-New Swift Sport commenced public sales on January 13th, 2018 in the Australia Automotive Market and is available at all Suzuki Australia Dealers for test drive now.

The all-new Honda Civic Type R has been engineered from the ground up to deliver the most rewarding driving experience in the hot hatch segment – both on road and on the race track.

Newly engineered from the ground up, the Honda Civic Type R was developed in parallel with the new standard Civic hatchback, with mutual benefits to the dynamics and refinement of both variants. It retains the heritage of Honda’s high-performance hatchback bloodline, combining the purity of front-wheel-drive chassis dynamics with aggressive design and finely-honed aerodynamics.

A new single-mass flywheel coupled with the slick six-speed manual gearbox reduces clutch inertia weight by 25 per cent, and combines with a seven per cent lower final gear ratio to enhance response under acceleration. The rev-matching function smooths shifts, eliminating undesirable transmission ‘shock’ associated with excessive or insufficient revving. The rev-matching function further enhances the joy of driving a manual transmission sports car.

A lightweight, highly rigid bodyshell – the product of innovative new engineering and construction techniques – complements the lower centre of gravity and a sophisticated new suspension system, contributing directly to the vehicle’s rewarding dynamics. An advanced Dual-Axis Strut Front Suspension system reduces torque steer and enhances on-the-limit cornering and steering feel. At the rear, Type R’s new multi-link suspension enhances ride comfort as well as high speed stability.

Dual-Pinion Variable-Ratio Electric Power Steering is new to the Type R, using a similar system as featured on the standard Civic, but optimising the variable ratio to deliver a more direct and secure feel at high speed.

Peak power output from the optimised and refined 2.0-litre VTEC Turbo engine is 320 PS (235 kW) at 6500rpm, and peak torque is 400Nm from 2500rpm to 4500rpm. It covers the 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) sprint in just 5.7 seconds and will go on to a top speed of 272 km/h (169 mph); meaning it is both the fastest-accelerating and quickest car in its class. It is also the fastest Type R ever around the Nürburgring Nordschleife with a lap time of 7min 43.8sec.

The 2017 Type R has a new selection of driving modes, adding a ‘Comfort’ setting to the default ‘Sport’ and track-focused ‘+R’ modes – all of which tailor the suspension compliance, steering geometry and throttle response of the car on demand. Compared to the previous Type R, the more significant difference between the damping forces of each driving mode gives the new car greater useability across a wider range of road surfaces. Notably, Comfort mode affords a high degree of compliance, coupled with a less urgent level of steering response.

The aggressive silhouette makes a confident statement about the Civic Type R’s dynamic character. Wider, longer and lower than any of its predecessors, the all-new Civic has short overhangs and muscular, taut lines. A sharp and aggressive ‘face’, pronounced wheel-arches and sculpted front and rear intakes project the Civic’s sporting brief.

A comprehensive aerodynamic includes a smooth underbody, front air curtain, a slim rear wing and vortex generators at the trailing edge of the roof line. These features contribute to a best-in-class balance between lift and drag, delivering superior levels of high speed stability.

The all-new interior has significantly improved levels of quality, comfort and refinement. Front and rear seat occupants benefit from greater visibility and more space than ever before in which to experience the Type R’s blistering performance, while the large boot and innovative side-sliding tonneau cover ensure the car retains its position as the most practical and versatile of high-performance hatchbacks.

New Civic Type R was engineered within the same development programme as the other members of the tenth generation Civic family – the largest global project for a single model in Honda’s history. Production of the new Type R is anticipated to start in summer 2017 at Honda of the UK Manufacturing (HUM) in Swindon – the global manufacturing hub for the 10th generation Civic hatchback.

The Type R will be exported across Europe and to other markets around the world, including Japan and the US. Its arrival in North America will mark the first time that any Honda-badged Type R has been officially sold there.

Honda has revealed details and the first official image of the all-new Honda Civic Hatch, ahead of its arrival in Australia early next year. For Australia, the Honda Civic Hatch is the next instalment of the all-new Civic line-up, with the Honda Civic Hatch complementing the just-released Civic sedan.

The Civic has already been named the 2016 North American Car of the Year. The Honda Civic Hatch combines striking, Euro-inspired styling and five-door versatility with the Civic’s world-class driving dynamics and Honda direct-injected turbo engine technology. The Honda Civic Hatch will also serve as the basis for the radical new Honda Civic Type-R launching in various world markets, including Australia, in 2017.

“Like the Civic sedan, the Honda Civic Hatch, will be a very important car in the Honda line-up in Australia,” Honda Australia Director, Stephen Collins said. “In the small car segment in Australia, hatches reign so we expect the Honda Civic Hatch to be a relevant option for Honda customers looking for the versatility of a hatch but with the proven quality, style and performance of a Honda.”

Collins said customers would see clear styling and design touch-points across both the Honda Civic Hatch and sedan models. “From the front, both the Honda Civic Hatch and sedan look similar; the interior packaging and features too will be the same,” he said. Collins said since its launch in May, the Civic sedan had been warmly received by both customers and dealers alike. “Our customers have really been impressed by the interior packaging, significantly improved quality and luggage space of the new Civic sedan, as well as the performance of the new 1.5-litre turbocharged engine and proven reliability of the 1.8-litre engine,” Collins said.

Built on the same world-class platform as the 10th-generation Civic sedan, the Honda Civic Hatch offers an appealing combination of sporty styling, efficiency, interior utility and premium features. As with the Civic sedan in Australia, the model line-up for the Honda Civic Hatch will be similar. The Honda Civic Hatch will boast both normally aspirated and turbocharged powertrains, wrapped in a more rigid and lightweight body and sophisticated chassis design, featuring a fully independent suspension system front and rear; sport-tuned electronic power steering with variable gear ratios; and powerful four-channel anti-lock disc brakes with Electronic Brake Distribution and Hill Start Assist.

The interior of the Honda Civic Hatch carries through on the modern, sophisticated and premium quality of the 10th-generation Civic sedan line-up, with high-grade materials and quality finishes applied liberally throughout.  In terms of packaging, the Honda Civic Hatch delivers impressive interior packaging and cargo capacity, featuring impressive rear seat legroom and function, roomy cargo space. As with the Civic sedan, the latest active and passive safety features will be available on the Honda Civic Hatch, including the Honda SensingÔ suite of safety and driver-assist technologies.

Honda Sensing includes: Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS) - Including Forward Collision Warning (FCW); Lane Departure Warning (LDW); Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) - with Low Speed Follow (LSF); Lane Keeping Assist (LKAS); and Road Departure Mitigation (RDM).

Other available features available include Honda Display Audio with Apple CarPlayÔ and Android AutoÔ, heated front seats and heated side mirrors, electric driver and front-passenger seats, push-button engine start and more.  The Honda Civic Hatch was developed jointly by Honda R&D teams in Europe and Japan and for the US export market, will be manufactured exclusively by Honda of the UK Manufacturing in its Swindon, UK plant.

The Honda Civic hatch will go on sale in Australia in the first half of 2017. Pricing and full Australian specifications will be announced closer to launch.

Ford is launching the new 2016 Focus RS and is expected to arrive in Ford dealerships from mid-2016, boasting maximum power of 257 kW / 440 Nm1 from its specially tuned 2.3-litre EcoBoost engine, mated to a sophisticated all-wheel drive system. The Focus RS will have a recommended Manufacturers’ List Price (MLP) of $50,9902. Customers will also be able to equip their RS hatches with a special optional 19-inch performance tyre pack at a recommended $2,500 (MLP)3. Prestige paint is a recommended $4503.

“The Focus RS is the latest example of our expanded performance lineup in Australia and showcase of the Ford Performance team’s ambitious spirit that is a halo of our innovation locally and across the company,” according to Ford President and CEO, Graeme Whickman. “It delivers refined power, a high level of technology, advanced Ford Performance all-wheel drive and uncompromised driving dynamics that is true to the spirit of the RS nameplate. Delivering a car like the Focus RS is also the result of the enormous R&D investment the brand puts into its vehicles. In Australia alone, we’re investing more than $300 million in R&D this year, bringing our total R & D investment to almost $2 billion over the past six years.”

The Focus RS is the sixth new performance model in two years will sit as the halo performance hatch above the Fiesta ST and Focus ST and builds on a pedigree of driving excellence dating back to the first Ford RS in 1968. Apart from the Fiesta ST and Focus ST, other Ford performance vehicles include the Falcon XR6, Falcon XR8 and soon-to-arrive Mustang GT. The Focus RS will be pitched into the high-performance hatch segment; with 51 kW more power than the VW Golf R and 36 kW more power than the Subaru WRX STi. As well, the Focus RS is more competitive in price than the Golf R and Renault Megane RS 275 Cup Premium.

Developed by Ford Performance, the Focus RS has a range of cutting-edge Ford technologies and a specifically tuned version of the new 2.3-litre EcoBoost engine. In the Focus RS it develops 257 kW @ 6,000 rpm and 440 Nm between 1,600 and 5,000 rpm.

“We are investing and innovating to take on the world’s best vehicles after pulling our various performance groups into the single Ford Performance global team,” says Jamal Hameedi, global chief engineer, Ford Performance. “We are not limiting ourselves to similarly priced vehicles as we now have the singular focus to go after the best just as we are doing with the Ford GT at LeMans and the Focus RS global launch.

“At the same time, we have to deliver on Ford’s mission to bring innovation to the masses, not just a few. So, the Focus RS is not only the most powerful performance hatch but it’s also the most affordable in Australia.”

All-out performance

EcoBoost is at the forefront of the LZ Focus RS and this fuel-efficient technology is shared with more than 80 per cent of Ford Australia’s product line-up. Visually, the LZ Focus RS has its own unique exterior appearance, which gives the vehicle a more muscular and powerful character. The design has also been optimised around the more extreme functional requirements for the RS, including cooling for the engine and brakes and aerodynamic performance. RS design features include:

  • New front fascia and grille, including optimised inlets for engine and brake cooling
  • New rear fascia with large diffuser element including twin exhaust outlets
  • Optimised front and rear spoilers to deliver balanced aerodynamics, with zero lift front and rear
  • Unique 19-inch multi-spoke RS alloy wheels

The interior has a very distinctive RS character with a host of special sporting features and detailing. The unique RS interior features include:

  • Signature RS-branded Recaro shell seats, with authentic motorsport micro-fibre fabric panels
  • Flat-base sports steering wheel with a soft-feel leather covered rim and RS badging
  • Binnacle gauges displaying turbocharger boost pressure, oil temperature and oil pressure
  • Satin chrome-topped gear lever
  • Alloy foot pedals
  • Distinctive blue RS stitching on the seats, steering wheel, floor mats and interior trim, the coloured graphic on the gear shifter, and RS logo on the seats, steering wheel and door scuff plates
  • SYNC™ 2 offers customers the benefit of a voice control system that enables them to control their phone, navigation, audio and media inputs and climate control by simple intuitive voice commands or via a large 8-inch high-resolution touchscreen

EcoBoost Engine

The new 2.3-litre EcoBoost engine for the all-new Focus RS shares its fundamental structure with the all-aluminium four-cylinder engine in the all-new Ford Mustang. The specially tuned 2.3-litre EcoBoost engine has been engineered specifically for the Focus RS, including a new low-inertia twin-scroll turbocharger with larger compressor that delivers significantly greater air flow, along with a much bigger intercooler. Peak turbocharger boost is 23.2 psi. Engine breathing also is enhanced through a less restrictive intake design, and a large-bore high-performance exhaust system with an electronically controlled valve in the tailpipe that helps optimise the balance of back pressure and noise output.

The cylinder head is produced from an upgraded alloy material capable of withstanding higher temperatures, while the cylinder block employs stronger high-tensile cast iron liners. Engine cooling also has been given the highest priority, with engineers creating additional space within the front of the vehicle to house a significantly larger radiator pack – the biggest ever fitted to a Focus – which provides the level of cooling demanded for intense circuit driving. Meticulous calibration work has ensured that the power unit delivers excellent low-end responsiveness with a powerful mid-range pull. In its European state of tune, maximum torque of 440 Nm is delivered between 1,600 and 5,000 rpm, with 470 Nm available for up to 15 seconds on transient overboost.

Inspiring performance demands an inspiring soundtrack. Ford Performance engineers have tuned the RS to deliver a rewarding and sporty sound character during spirited driving, with the distinctive burbles and pops that are a RS signature.

The 1980s saw the launch of many cult classics, arguably headed by the Back to the Future trilogy and Peugeot’s eponymous 205 GTi hot hatch. Some thirty years on, Peugeot Australia will go back to the future offering its final run of current 208 GTi, the spiritual successor to the 205 GTi, at its original 1980s recommended retail price of $29,500*. Much like when Marty travelled from 1985 to 2015 in Back to the Future 2, the limited offer will expire on October 21, 2015 or until stocks last. When launched in Australia the 205 GTi featured a naturally aspirated 1.9 litre four-cylinder drivetrain developing 88kW and 153Nm of torque.

Drive was via the front wheels with power transferred by a 5 speed manual, enough to propel the vehicle to 100km/h (yet not quite the 88 miles per hour required for time travel) in 8.5 seconds. Today’s 208 GTi features a turbocharged 1.6 litre drivetrain developing 147kW and 275Nm; enough to cover the 0-100km/h sprint in 6.8 seconds. Drive remains via the front wheels, with power placed to the ground via a 6-speed manual transmission.

The 208 GTi scores the following improvements over its 1980 sibling:

  • More powerful drivetrain
  • 7 inch touch screen with satellite navigation
  • Cruise control with electronic speed limiter
  • six airbags
  • ABS with Electronic Brake-force Distribution
  • Emergency Brake Assist
  • Remote control central locking and alarm
  • Rear parking sonar
  • Dual zone climate control air conditioning
  • Power steering
  • Electric windows and folding mirrors
  • Electro chromatic rear view mirror
  • 6 speaker audio
  • Steering wheel audio controls
  • Bluetooth and AUX connectors
  • Trip computer
  • 17 inch alloy wheels
  • Cornering fog lamp function
  • Follow me home illumination
  • LED daytime running lamps
  • Longer warranty

John Startari, General Manager of Peugeot Australia, said the 20-series Peugeots an in particular the GTi models, have held iconic status for over 30 years. “Since it launched 30 years ago the Peugeot 205 GTi has always been viewed as an icon, one of the greats of the hot hatch segment and we thought it fitting to recognise its status with its spiritual successor; the 208 GTi,” said Startari. “While we can’t travel back in time it’s amazing to think just how far vehicles have come in 30 years – particularly the humble hatchback.

“In 1985 the idea of a vehicle having Bluetooth, satellite navigation and the like was as believable as a flying car that ran on plutonium. Yet today it’s the reality and for such a little difference in price. “We are certain that all 30 vehicles will be spoken for fairly quickly, so our only advice is to get in to a dealer before you’re OUTATIME,” said Startari.

The last remaining 30 Peugeot 208 GTi will make way for a revised model late in 2015, with final details and pricing announced closer to launch.

Toyota has revamped the styling, driving enjoyment and features of its Corolla hatch while improving fuel economy* across the range. An extensive exterior redesign introduces two distinctive new looks to the hatch versions of Australia's best-selling car, increasing Corolla's appeal to a wider range of customers. Ascent and Ascent Sport grades receive a classic European-inspired outline while the higher SX and ZR grades adopt a sportier character that incorporates a body kit. Corolla's more dynamic exterior proportions are complemented by interior upgrades including new audio systems, suspension refinements focused on ride comfort and efficiency gains that cut fuel use by as much as 7.6 per cent*.

Sensory quality in the cabin has been raised with a cleaner design for the dash panel and centre console along with new instrument gauges, fresh upholstery and satin chrome-plated ornaments. Corolla Ascent hatch is now fitted with a reversing camera, making it standard across the entire Corolla range. The camera's image is displayed on new touch-screen monitors that are also used to operate the upgraded audio system. The new designs, added equipment and engineering updates are accompanied by price increases of just $300 on Ascent and Ascent Sport while top-of-the-line ZR is reduced by $1,000, or more than 3.3 per cent. SX prices remain steady. Toyota Australia's executive director sales and marketing Tony Cramb said the latest updates will give Corolla a decisive competitive edge and strengthen its claim to a third consecutive year as Australia's best-selling car.

"Corolla hatch customers now have a clear choice between two compelling new designs: classic or sporty - both of which deliver a greater presence and visually broader stance," Cramb said. "Buyers will also be attracted by a more stylish interior, under-the-skin tweaks that dial up the fun-to-drive factor and lower fuel consumption that will result in an even lower cost of ownership," he said.

The two new looks for Corolla hatch result in a car that is 55mm longer, giving stylists the opportunity to craft a more dynamic silhouette. Longer overhangs (35mm front, 20mm rear) improve the overall balance of each design, aided by a sweeping line from the headlights to the tail-lamp cluster. Ascent and Ascent Sport variants feature a stronger front bumper, a lower grille that runs the full width of the car, and a more prominent Toyota logo at the front that is flanked by chrome 'wings' and new headlight clusters. New 10-spoke 16-inch alloy wheels are fitted to Ascent Sport while 16-inch steel wheels are retained for Ascent. The more aggressive design for SX and ZR Corolla hatch is distinguished by a piano-black honeycomb mesh pattern for the upper grille and a hexagonal lower grille between sculpted bezels that emphasise the car's low, wide stance. The sporty image for these two grades is completed by front, side and rear skirts, a roof-mounted rear spoiler and newly developed 17-inch alloy rims with brighter, machined highlights.

Range-topping ZR Corolla hatch is equipped for the first time with Bi-LED headlights and LED daytime running lamps. Other models have halogen lamps. Foglamps are standard above Ascent. All grades are now equipped with a shark-fin antenna. There are eight exterior colours, including new Blue Gem and Citrus.

A more sophisticated interior results from a reduction in the visual mass of the dashboard design, cleaner integration of the instruments and a more consistent shape and finish to surfaces and trim. Detail elements such as the air vents, door handles and gear-lever surround have been redesigned for a crisper, higher quality appearance. Ascent's updated audio system features a new 6.1-inch touch-screen display, AM/FM tuner, single CD player, USB and iPod®# audio, AUX, Bluetooth®^ connectivity and information such as fuel efficiency history. Ascent Sport's audio system is enhanced with a new seven-inch touch-screen display and the introduction of Toyota Link" connected mobility with apps that can help drivers find a destination, fuel and weather details as well as roadside and other assistance. In Corolla SX and ZR hatch, the seven-inch touch-screen also displays satellite navigation** maps with real-time traffic updates, giving drivers the option of navigating to destinations found through the Toyota Link system.

For a small fee, drivers of these models can use Destination Assist## to request the help of an operator to find a particular destination. The destination and contact details are sent to the vehicle using the Destination Download## app. New instruments for all models feature a cool blue illumination - a three-gauge design for Ascent and Ascent Sport and a double-gauge set-up for the SX and ZR, separated by a 4.2-inch colour multi-information display. Revised steering wheels have V-shaped ornamentation extending below the horn pad to match the satin chrome-plated highlights throughout the more up-market cabin, giving a sportier and more harmonious interior feel. Seat trims include black fabric for the first two grades, sporty black-and-orange for the SX and black with leather accents for ZR.

Australian cars are fitted with the most powerful Corolla engine available in the world, a 1.8-litre four-cylinder petrol engine with dual variable valve timing and maximum power of 103kW. The 2ZR-FE engine features an acoustic controlled induction system to boost torque at low-to-mid engine speeds. Efficiency gains across the board result in fuel consumption with the six-speed manual gearbox improving to 6.7 litres/100km* (from 7.1 litres). Corolla's revised seven-speed Multi-Drive automatic transmission uses substantially less fuel with consumption falling to 6.1 litres/100km* - an improvement of half a litre. Contributing factors include quicker heating of the Multi-Drive transmission fluid at start-up and the adoption of an oil-pump system with two modes that lower drive torque. A revised transmission case reduces noise and vibration.

Paddle shifters in auto SX and ZR grades have been redesigned to make them easier to use.

Revisions to the front and rear suspension have improved initial roll damping, minimised friction and enhanced straight-line ride comfort. Corolla's MacPherson strut front suspension now incorporates revised front shock absorbers, stabiliser bushes and coils to improve ride comfort as well as handling stability. The coil shape has been changed with lateral force-reducing springs utilised to aid ride comfort while the twist resistance of the strut bearing has been reduced, contributing to steering feel. A fluoropolymer coating has been applied to the inner surface of the stabiliser bush, aiding ride comfort with a smoother stroke. Shock absorbers have been retuned for even better handling stability while enhanced response contributes to ride comfort.

Damping force characteristics of Corolla's torsion-beam rear suspension have also been retuned to support enhanced ride comfort, handling and stability. A preload differential promotes smoother take-off and manoeuvring on normal or slippery roads, a more stable steering feel at constant highway speeds and greater straight-line stability on rough roads. Mapping of the electric power steering has been tuned for additional steering weight as vehicle speed increases. All models now include Hill-start Assist Control^^, which helps prevent the car rolling back on an incline between the driver releasing the brake and applying the accelerator. The improved system detects when the vehicle is on an incline and automatically holds the brakes for up to two seconds.

Corolla is Toyota's most popular model in Australia with total sales of more than 1.3 million cars in 48 years. In each of the past two years, Corolla has led its hotly contested market segment and claimed the title as Australia's best-selling car. It is also leading this year's title race with sales of almost 17,600 cars to the end of May, giving it a lead of close to 1,300 sales. Corolla hatch, like all new Toyota vehicles, is covered by Toyota Service Advantage. There is a capped price of $140 for each of up to six scheduled logbook services in the first three years or 60,000km+.

Honda Australia’s European-bred Civic Hatch range has received a number of specification and design upgrades for 2015. “The Civic nameplate has such a long history around the world,” said Honda Australia Director, Mr. Stephen Collins. “It has been an Australian favourite for over forty years. This year, it receives enhanced styling and more specification, ensuring it will remain a favourite.” The biggest addition to the Civic Hatch range is new safety technology called Agile Handling Assist System (AHAS). This system works with Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA) and can help support the vehicle’s stability and performance during cornering by lightly applying the brakes during cornering.

Outside, the Civic Hatch receives a number of redesigned exterior components: front and rear bumpers, front grille, side molding and rear spoiler. The range also receives as standard guided tube daytime running lights and guided tube tail lights. The VTi-L and VTi-LN grades will also receive front and rear parking sensors. Inside, the most notable upgrade is the addition of Honda’s Display Audio System enabling Bluetooth connectivity, audio streaming, mirroring functionality (compatible iPhone only) and display of the reversing camera. The VTi-LN also features Display Audio with built-in satellite navigation. It also receives a new passenger side dash garnish, sporty seat fabric (VTi-S and VTi-L grades), new stitching and chrome accents on the door panels.
