The turbocharged Ford Mustang EcoBoost has joined the Ford Mustang GT in Ford showrooms to give Australia’s favourite sports car even greater appeal. Following on from the Mustang GT launch in June, the turbocharged Mustang EcoBoost gives customers greater choice for what’s the most customisable Mustang line-up ever offered.
“Mustang needs no introduction, and the arrival of the EcoBoost models means that we now have the full gamut of performance options for Australian enthusiasts,” said Ford Australia and New Zealand President and CEO, Kay Hart. “With its turbocharged engine, Mustang EcoBoost adds an advanced 224kWii powertrain to that unmistakable, iconic Mustang design.”
Following on from the June 2018 Mustang GT launch, the Mustang EcoBoost brings a fresh new look, with exterior design updates, fresh colours and customisation options. Inside, cabin upgrades and new technology include a digital dash, B&O Play audio system and optional 10-speed paddleshift automatic. Driver Assistance Technology includes Autonomous Emergency Braking as standard on all EcoBoost models, making this a standard feature on every new Mustang.
The 2019 Mustang EcoBoost ownership experience comes with a five-year, unlimited kilometre warranty on all models. Additional benefits available to eligible customers at participating dealers include Ford’s Service Price Promise, Service Loan Car, Sat-nav Map Updates, Low Price Tyre Guarantee price match program and Auto Club Membership.
Turbocharged Pony: Under the hood The hood vents on the 2019 Mustang EcoBoost feed a highly sophisticated direct fuel-injection 2.3-litre turbocharged in-line four-cylinder engine, mated to a standard six-speed manual or optional all-new 10-speed paddleshift automatic. With an aluminium block and head, featuring an integrated exhaust manifold, it produces 224kWii and 441Nmii and uses a twin-scroll turbocharger. The Mustang EcoBoost’s turbocharger has been tuned for optimal spooling to deliver a smooth torque curve yet low-end responsiveness behind the wheel. It also features forged conrods, lightweight pistons with steel rings, and twin independent variable cam timing.
A new 10-speed SelectShift automatic transmission, now available with both EcoBoost and V8 engines, is the best automatic Mustang has ever offered and boasts Ford-patented technology. With a wide-ratio span and optimised gear spacing, this all-new transmission helps deliver higher average power for acceleration – improving responsiveness and performance. Compared to the previous six-speed, the new 10-speed transmission improves shift times, low-speed tip-in response and reduces friction losses.
The six-speed manual transmission for both engine options has been upgraded for optimal torque, and now includes a dual-mass flywheel to deliver more efficient clutch modulation, delivering improved NVH and higher torque capability.
Mustang EcoBoost: unmistakable style for 2019 Available in Convertible and sleek Fastback body styles, Mustang EcoBoost brings with it a fresh visual upgrade for 2019. Its more athletic and contemporary exterior design includes a lower, remodelled bonnet and grille for a meaner, leaner look, and a new front splitter for improved handling and improved fuel economy. For the first time, the entire Mustang line-up features all-LED front lights, including iconic tribar daytime running lamps (DTRLs) plus there are revised LED taillamps, new bumper, fascia and an optional performance spoiler. The classic long-bonnet, swooping roofline and short-tail is punctuated by the standard black 19-inch alloy wheels showcasing the Brembo brake calipers. Leading to revised taillight design, a black rear diffuser houses quad-exhausts, with rolled finishing for 2019.
Improved materials, higher quality finishes and smart design elements are central to changes for the 2019 Mustang EcoBoost interior. These include dash and console coverings, as well as revised spun aluminium look dash applique for more tactile, premium cabin feel.
Further cabin enhancements include a new 12-speaker 1000W B&O Play audio system as standard on every Mustang EcoBoost for 2019. With a 10-channel amplifier, sound engineers have specifically tuned the system for both static and dynamic situations, to ensure a consistently immersive audio experience regardless of the surrounds.
Technology: The most advanced Mustang ever sold in Australia New technology updates for Mustang include a 12.4-inch all-digital LCD instrument cluster, inspired by the Le Mans-winning Ford GT race car, that you can customise your way. Created in part by ex-video game developers, this all-new instrument cluster offers three separate views. Mustang owners can customise the displays for Normal, Sport and Track modes and choose settings including colour and gauge layout.
Holden’s first all-wheel-drive (AWD) turbocharged performance sedan will arrive in Australian dealerships next month, marking the second important instalment in Holden’s new European product onslaught. Following the exciting launch of Astra and Cascada last month, Holden will welcome the top of the range, sporty Insignia VXR which boasts stunning design, sophisticated technology and European quality all in a true mid-sized performance car. Built in Russelsheim, Germany, Insignia VXR features state-of-the-art AWD technology and sporty performance via a 2.8 litre V6 turbocharged engine which, when partnered with a six-speed automatic transmission, delivers 239kW of power and an impressive 435Nm of torque. Peter Keley, Executive Director of Sales, said Insignia VXR was an exciting and fitting addition to the Holden range.
“Performance and great to drive have always been part of Holden’s DNA. Add to this a German designed and engineered AWD performance sedan, loaded with equipment, and you have one very exciting vehicle,” Keley said. “The Holden Insignia VXR is visually stunning with great road presence, exceptional build quality and breathtaking performance, all at an incredibly competitive price. “This car is sure to make customers who are looking for a true performance mid-size sedan take a serious look at this latest Holden. “It is further evidence that Holden is serious about our future product strategy. Insignia VXR is a very exciting taste of things to come.”
The vehicle will introduce three new sophisticated technologies to Holden, including Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Change Alert and Auto Emergency Braking, which join numerous other premium features such as Adaptive Forward Lighting, Blind Spot Alert and FlexRide Suspension. Insignia offers three performance settings; Standard, Sport and VXR, allowing drivers to customise the vehicle’s performance features such as responsive accelerator and gear change, sport steering, firmer sports suspension and a greater rear bias AWD setting. The next generation MyLink infotainment system boasts an eight-inch touch screen display and is complemented by a premium audio system with seven high-quality speakers.
The Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) uses a radar sensor to monitor the distance to the preceding traffic and to maintain a selectable gap and the desired speed by adjusting the speed automatically with engine management and brake intervention. The vehicle is automatically braked if necessary and restarted by using the accelerator pedal. In combination with ACC, the integrated Forward Collision Alert (FCA) uses the radar sensor of the ACC to detect the vehicle ahead. The Holden Insignia VXR is fitted with state-of-the-art safety features including Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB). This safety feature supports the driver in mitigating the severity of some front-end crashes by automatically braking the vehicle for an imminent collision. AEB may help non-attentive drivers that have not yet taken corrective action, avoid or mitigate crashes with vehicles ahead by automatically applying the brakes. This action reduces pre-impact vehicle speed and thus collision energy.
The feature works in conjunction with Forward Collision Alert and also includes Integrated Brake Assist (IBA), which may activate when drivers begin braking quickly. IBA will assist to avoid or mitigate the severity of the collision by automatically boosting the driver’s braking to the necessary level, based upon the speed of approach and distance to a target ahead, up to the vehicle’s maximum braking effort. In terms of collisions, any vehicle approaching fast from behind can be highly dangerous especially when a driver is pulling out to overtake or entering a stream of traffic. Radar with a rearward range of up to 70 metres detects and warns of fast approaching vehicles in either left or right parallel lanes with a visual signal in the respective exterior mirror.

Citroen has introduced the five-seat C4 Picasso model to the Australian market. Available now, the C4 Picasso is more akin to a hatch than people mover thanks to its unique version of PSA’s lightweight EMP2 platform. The all-new model brings with it a number of segment first features and technology including the first vehicle to feature a 360 degree - bird’s eye view monitor, park assist (self-park), a segment best six-year unlimited kilometre warranty (with capped price servicing and roadside assist) and the largest boot in the segment at 537 litres. The five-seat C4 Picasso will feature a turbocharged 1.6-litre petrol four-cylinder engine paired to an all-new six speed automatic transmission. Developing 121kW and 240Nm, the EURO6 emissions-certified C4 Picasso can accelerate to 100km/h in 9.3 seconds, yet consumes just 5.6 litres of petrol per 100 kilometres. The 1.6-litre engine has also been the recipient of the prestigious 2014 Engine of the Year award in its class.
Inside, the C4 Picasso offers a light, roomy and airy cabin environment punctuated by dual TFT (Thin-Film Transfer) screens – the upper offering a 12-inch, high-definition, panoramic display, while the lower touch-sensitive 7-inch screen offers control of all on-board and vehicle functions. Citroen Australia General Manager, John Startari, said the five-seat C4 Picasso will offer consumers an attractive, feature-packed and practical solution to their family motoring needs. “The C4 Picasso arrives at a time when this segment is growing, but it is a very strong proposition in terms of vehicle features, warranty, service and support,” said Startari. “The C4 Picasso has been specified to offer everything the family will need as standard equipment.
“Picasso is neither an SUV, nor an MPV or wagon. We believe it will appeal to a wide variety of Australian buyers looking for a modern, flexible and innovative vehicle that is great to look at and easy to live with,” said Startari. The Citroen C4 Picasso was awarded the “2014 Golden Steering Award” by German automotive publication AutoBuild, as well as “Hatch of the Year” by Top Gear UK and “Irish Car Of The Year”. The Picasso’s larger stablemate the Citroen Grand C4 Picasso, launched in Australia in early 2014, has also received numerous accolades, including the Australian International Design Award, Australia’s Best Car for the “Family Wagons” class and Drive.com.au Best people Mover for 2014. The Citroen C4 Picasso will launch with Citroen’s 6 year warranty, roadside assist and capped price servicing program.
Lexus has expanded its recently launched NX Line with the addition of an important new first-for-Lexus turbocharged petrol engine. The Lexus NX 200t features a new engine which has been nine years in development and introduces technical innovations such as its Lexus-designed proprietary turbocharger and manifold. The extensive in-house development program was run to ensure the engine's power, efficiency, NVH and quality levels were suitable for the brand. NX 200t's engine brings a higher level of performance to the NX range, and offers customers the choice of a different driving experience next to the highly efficient NX 300h hybrid models already on sale. Putting out 175kW and 350Nm, the NX 200t's powerplant maximises the potential of the NX Line's stiff platform and all-wheel drive or two-wheel drive driveline to create the high-performance expression of what its creators have dubbed "urban sports gear".
NX 200t's six-speed automatic transmission combines with a number of the new engine's efficiency measures to provide excellent fuel economy of 7.7 litres/100km* on the combined cycle. The powerplant in NX 200t brings world-first developments, including its cylinder head with integrated four-into-two exhaust manifold and twin-scroll turbocharger. It also has Lexus firsts including the fuel-saving Stop & Start function, and most importantly - turbocharging technology for its petrol engines. The new engine also has the latest Lexus fuel injection system.
NX 200t's technology package is housed in the visually dynamic Lexus L-Finesse exterior design language of the NX Line, within its well-appointed and highly specified interior. Lexus Australia chief executive Sean Hanley said the NX 200t adds a new dimension to the NX Line while showcasing the technological development prowess of the marque. "Lexus' most recent offerings - including the RC 350 and the RC F - are bolstering the brand's performance credentials alongside the quality we've always been known for," Mr Hanley said. "The NX 200t now brings a genuine high performance option to our recently added NX small SUV Line.
"Its performance, along with the cutting-edge technology and innovation, really shows off the Lexus way of aiming for perfection right from the beginning."
