Parallel to the start of the largest model initiative in the history of the brand, BMW is also increasing the attractiveness and diversity within the range of existing series with a multitude of new features being introduced in the autumn of 2017. From November 2017, the new BMW M550d xDrive Touring (combined fuel consumption: 6.7 – 6.4 l/100 km; combined CO2 emissions: 176 – 168 g/km) and the new BMW 640d xDrive Gran Turismo (combined fuel consumption: 6.2 – 5.8 l/100 km; combined CO2 emissions: 163 – 153 g/km) will become available, whilst as from December 2017, two new petrol engine variants will be offered for the new BMW X3. Furthermore, the choice of special equipment features for the new BMW X3 will be complemented by exclusive exterior and interior options by BMW Individual.

The BMW X1 xDrive20d (combined fuel consumption: 4.8 – 4.7 l/100 km; combined CO2 emissions: 127 – 123 g/km) will in future come with the 8-speed Steptronic transmission as standard. Moreover, as from November 2017, the range of optional light alloy wheels for the compact Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV) will be complemented by five new variants. In addition to the introduction of the BMW Connected Services Microsoft Office 365 with Skype for Business, the upgrade of BMW Connected+ with new personalised digital mobility services will ensure further advancement in the field of intelligent networking. Starting in the autumn of 2017, the number of cities in which the digital parking space search service On-Street Parking Information can be utilized will increase even further.

New BMW M Performance model: BMW M550d xDrive Touring featuring the most powerful six-cylinder diesel engine available worldwide

From November 2017, the fleet of exceptionally sporty BMW M Performance automobiles will be complemented by a fascinatingly powerful but also impressively efficient model variant of the new BMW 5 Series Touring. The new BMW M550d xDrive Touring will feature the most powerful six-cylinder diesel engine available worldwide. The M Performance TwinPower Turbo technology used on the 3-litre, straight six-cylinder power unit comprises multi-stage charging with four turbochargers and Common Rail direct injection operating at a maximum pressure of more than 2,500 bar. A maximum power output of 294 kW/400 hp and a peak torque of 760 Nm available between 2, 000 and 3, 000 rpm ensure spontaneous response and constant power delivery across the entire speed range.

The BMW M550d xDrive Touring brings its exceptional engine performance to the tarmac via an 8-speed sports transmission and intelligent rear-wheel oriented four-wheel drive technology and accelerates from a standstill to 100 km/h in just 4.6 seconds. The sporty diesel engine convinces not only with highly responsive performance characteristics, but also with impressive fuel economy. Combined fuel consumption of the new BMW M550d xDrive Touring is between 6.7 and 6.4 litres per 100 km with CO2 emission levels of 176 to 168 grams per km (figures as per EU test cycle, depending on selected tyre size).

Included in the standard equipment range for the BMW M550d xDrive Touring are, inter alia, an M sports suspension, Integral Active Steering and model-specific exterior and interior features. Moreover, 19-inch M light alloy wheels with mixed tyres and the M sports brake system underscore the BMW M Performance model’s dynamic character.

Superior and efficient: The new BMW 640d xDrive Gran Turismo

As from November 2017, the model range of the new BMW 6 Series Gran Turismo will be extended with the production start of a second diesel engine variant. The new BMW 640d xDrive Gran Turismo combines sporty performance and supreme ride comfort with a high level of efficiency. Its 3-litre straight six-cylinder engine with BMW TwinPower Turbo technology features multi-stage charging with variable intake geometry for the high and low pressure chargers as well as Common Rail direct injection. It delivers 235 kW/320 hp and a maximum torque of 680 Nm.

In conjunction with an 8-speed Steptronic transmission and the intelligent four-wheel drive system xDrive, the powerful diesel engine allows the new BMW 640d xDrive Gran Turismo to accelerate from 0 to100 km/h in 5.3 seconds. Combined fuel consumption is between 6.2 and 5.8 litres per 100 km, with corresponding CO2 emission levels of 163 to 153 grams per km (figures as per EU test cycle, depending on selected tyre size).

The BMW X3: Starting with two additional engines and special equipment features by BMW Individual

In December 2017, just a few weeks after the market launch of the new BMW X3, two four-cylinder petrol engines are to be added to the drive portfolio. In addition to BMW TwinPower Turbo technology with Twin Scroll turbo charger, High Precision Injection, fully variable valve control VALVETRONIC and variable camshaft control Double VANOS, both 2-litre power units also boast a weight-optimised design and a new engine encapsulation system for optimising acoustic characteristics and warm-up behaviour. They come as standard with the combination of an 8-speed Steptronic transmission and intelligent four-wheel drive technology BMW xDrive

The engine featured in the new BMW X3 xDrive20i delivers a maximum power output of 135 kW/184 hp and a peak torque of 290 Nm. The car’s sporty characteristics are reflected in an acceleration of 8.3 seconds from 0 to 100 km/h, an exceptionally economical average fuel consumption of between 7.3 and 7.1 litres per 100 km and CO2 emission levels of 168 to 163 grams per km. The second petrol engine delivers a power output of 185 kW/252 hp and 350 Nm of torque, allowing the new BMW X3 xDrive30i to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.3 seconds. Combined fuel consumption is between 7.3 and 7.2 litres per 100 km with CO2 emission levels of 168 to 164 grams per km (figures as per EU test cycle, depending on selected tyre size).

The extra dose of luxury and exclusiveness added to the new BMW X3’s character is also reflected in the extensive range of products offered by BMW Individual. The BMW Individual body colour variant Sun Stone metallic effectively accentuates the powerfully modelled surfaces of the Sports Activity Vehicle in a most impressive manner. The sophisticated interior ambience is created by the BMW Individual upgraded leather trim Merino in the colour combinations Fiona Red/Black, Ivory White and Tartufo, door sills bearing the BMW Individual lettering and BMW Individual interior trim strips in a black piano gloss finish.

BMW X1 xDrive20d now with 8-speed Steptronic transmission as standard, new light alloy wheels for the compact SAV

Starting November 2017, the 140 kW/190 hp four-cylinder engine in the BMW X1 xDrive20d will come as standard in conjunction with an 8-speed Steptronic transmission, allowing the compact SAV to accelerate from a standstill to 100 km/h in 7.9 seconds. Average fuel consumption of the BMW X1 xDrive20d is between 4.8 and 4.7 litres per 100 km and CO2 emissions 127 to 123 grams per km (figures as per EU test cycle, depending on selected tyre size).

Furthermore, the range of light alloy wheels optionally available for the BMW X1 will be upgraded. The choice will comprise five new variants ranging from 17-inch wheels with aerodynamically optimised turbine styling to 19-inch M light alloy wheels in a double-spoke design and bicolour optics.

Enhanced networking and productivity inside the vehicle: Microsoft Office 365 with Skype for Business, On-Street Parking Information in further European cities

With the integrated function Microsoft Office 365, BMW is the first manufacturer to offer a safe server connection for the exchange and processing of mails, calendar entries and contact data. This function allows direct transfer of addresses from calendar entries into the navigation system and selection of telephone numbers via the connected mobile telephone. Moreover, from the end of September 2017, it will be possible to use the Unified Communication solution Skype for Business from Microsoft inside the car. This service is also fully integrated into the onboard iDrive control system. Upcoming telephone conferences are automatically identified. It is possible to participate simply by pressing the controller. During the journey, the name of those taking part in the discussion can be shown on the Control Display. The new BMW ConnectedDrive service will first be available in Germany, Great Britain and France. Additional countries are to follow at the end of 2017.

From the autumn of 2017, the number of European cities in which the unique On-Street Parking Information service, which assists the driver in finding a free parking space at the roadside, will be extended even further. The digital parking space finder, which is available in conjunction with the Real Time Traffic Information (RTTI) service for all current BMW models, can be also used in the Swedish cities of Stockholm, Gothenburg and Malmö as well as in the French cities of Paris, Lyon, Marseille, Nice, Nantes and Toulouse. Moreover, the cities of London, Manchester, Liverpool, Birmingham, Bristol, Sheffield, Glasgow, Edinburgh and Belfast in the UK have been added to this list.

BMW Connected with new services

The intelligent networking of the vehicle and the driver’s Smartphone will be further intensified with the service package BMW Connected+. Since July 2017 the extended range of digital services has been available for all current BMW models and BMW i models and comprises the highly personalised and simple display of Smartphone contents inside the car as well as new mobility services.

The reinvigorated Levorg range offers greater customer choice in both specification and pricing, with the entry-level 1.6 GT priced from $35,990 Manufacturer’s List Price*. Subtle cosmetic changes to Levorg’s front add to its stylish road presence, aided by newly-designed LED headlights and higher quality LED fog lights.

Subaru Australia Managing Director, Colin Christie, said: “Levorg has opened up a whole new performance niche for Subaru since we launched just over a year ago.

“We can now see even greater opportunity with the addition of two 1.6-litre turbo variants that will make this fun, flexible wagon available to an even greater cross-section of customers. Equally, by adding the prestige of the STI badge to the range-topping 2.0 STI Sport, we’re catering to customer demand for something even more exclusive at the top of the range - so the freshened MY18 line-up represents a significant opportunity for us.”

As with the entire Subaru new car range, every Levorg has an independent five-star rating for occupant safety from the Australasian New Car Assessment Program (ANCAP).

Entry-level Levorgs offer the 1.6-litre horizontally opposed four-cylinder Boxer engine, which has never previously been available on any Australian Subaru. Producing 125 Kilowatts of power at 4,800-5,600 rpm and 250 Newtonmetres of torque at 1800-4800 rpm, the compact unit offers even greater fuel efficiency within the expanded Levorg range.

The direct injection engine features direct cylinder injection and a forced induction supercharger intake. Each cylinder has a four-valve Double Overhead Camshaft (DOHC) valvetrain and Active Valve Control System (AVCS). It consumes 7.4 litres of fuel per 100 kilometres in the combined cycle.

As with the 2.0-litre variants, it is mated to an efficient Lineartronic Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT).

SMART REARVIEW MIRROR (SRM) – 1.6 GT Premium, 2.0 GT-S, 2.0 STI Sport

The SRM offers better rear visibility. Images of the area behind the car are taken by a camera mounted inside and above the rear gate glass, and displayed in the rearview mirror. It is particularly effective when the standard rearview mirror provides poor visibility in fluctuating light conditions, such as evening or at night; or if passengers or cargo are obscuring the view.

Two modes are available:

  • Mirror Mode is used as an ordinary mirror, without displaying images from the rear camera.
  • Display Mode is used for displaying images from the rear camera.

SRM modes are activated using a switch at the bottom of the mirror.

FRONT VIEW MONITOR (FVM) 1.6 GT Premium, 2.0GT-S, 2.0 STI Sport

The FVM helps prevent collisions at intersections, or when parking close to walls or other objects. Images from a camera mounted at the front of the vehicle can be shown on the Multi- Function Display, to check for approaching vehicles, or pedestrians, at intersections with poor visibility; or other scenarios.

It helps the driver check for blind spots in front of the car, which can help avoid accidents occurring at intersections.

The Bilstein front and rear suspension in Levorg 1.6 GT Premium, 2.0 GT-S and 2.0 STI Sport is enhanced from the superseded model year for smoother ride comfort, while retaining sporty capabilities. Both the front and rear suspension configurations are changed for better flat ride comfort with minimal pitching.

The changes help absorb even the smallest bumps and subtle changes in the road surface, for superior ride comfort.

The result is a more consistent, comfortable ride in all situations.

Front suspension changes:

  • Front arm rubber bush plate
  • Spring constant of coils
  • Damping force
  • Rebound length

Rear suspension changes:

  • Spring constant of coils
  • Damping force
  • Rebound length
  • Diameter of rear stabilizers

Another debut feature for Subaru, AVH alleviates driver fatigue by holding the vehicle in position, even when releasing the brake pedal when stopped. This means drivers no longer have to keep their foot on the brake pedal in situations like traffic congestion, traffic lights or when stopped on hills.

Instead, Vehicle Dynamics Control (VDC) takes over, maintaining brake fluid pressure to keep the car in position.

Every Levorg now features, Steering Responsive Headlights, which operate with both high and low beam. The headlight beams move to match steering input when turning corners, or at intersections - improving night-time visibility. Headlight angle is calculated from steering angle and vehicle speed.

Newly developed brake pads in Levorg 2.0-litre variants are used with a high friction coefficient material. This material improves brake efficiency by approximately 20 per cent compared to the superseded pads - giving drivers control of immense braking power with minimal effort, to help improve braking performance.

A significant number of Levorg customers lead active lifestyles that involve skiing, surfing and other outdoor activities, so a greater number of seat configuration options are added to enhance rear seat and cargo space usability. Levorg is Subaru’s first model with a 40/20/40 split-fold rear seat. The new layout is particularly suited to loading long items. Even with two passengers seated in the rear, the centre seat can be folded, enabling equipment such as skis to be positioned from the cargo space.

With three passengers and sizable cargo, the rear seat passenger can sit on either side of the car. As an additional safety measure, the Levorg is also the first Subaru to use oil dampers within the seats, limiting the speed at which seats fold, to prevent users from trapping their fingers.

The reclining function and one-touch folding function are retained too. The centre seat is designed so there is no step to the cargo space when folded down.

The larger 5.9-inch MFD located in the centre dashboard offers a wide variety of information including:

  • Seatbelt warning for passengers
  • Automatic air conditioning operation status
  • Calendar, fuel economy screen, eco assessment screen, preventative safety, clock and outside temperature, self-check etc.

The display can be switched and various settings changed from both front passenger and driver’s seats.

Kia has announced details of a range of upgrades to the Kia Carens MPV (Kia Rondo in some markets). The updated Carens will be available across Europe immediately after its unveiling at the 2016 Paris Motor Show (Mondial de l’Automobile) on September 29. The enhancements have refreshed the appearance and functionality of the Carens, bringing it up-to-date with Kia’s latest model designs, improving in-cabin ambience, and updating the safety and connectivity features on offer to buyers.

Sales of the Kia Carens have grown steadily since the latest model was introduced in 2013 and the model holds an important position in the Kia range as the ideal vehicle for families. In the first half of 2016, more than 11,500 Carens models were sold across Europe, representing a 1 per cent year-on-year increase over the same period last year. The upgraded Carens will help Kia further expand sales of the car, which has contributed to the Korean brand’s best-ever six-month period recorded in the first six months of 2016.

Revised exterior and interior design

Kia’s designers have introduced a series of changes to the upgraded Carens, including revised front and rear bumpers and fog lamp design, and an updated ‘tiger-nose’ grille, resulting in a more sculpted appearance. These changes are accompanied by the addition of a new exterior paint finish, Mysterious Blue, as well as three new designs for 16-, 17- and 18-inch aluminium alloy wheels. The updated model also boasts new rear combination lamps with a distinctive new light signature.

The Carens’ spacious seven-seat interior is enhanced with the adoption of a new seat upholstery – available with a new knit cloth pattern, or leather with a diamond-woven pattern – as well as new metallic and gloss-black accents throughout the cabin, and a new carbon-effect dashboard trim. The interior of the Carens is available with either black or beige upholstery.

Advanced safety and infotainment features

The latest version of the Carens is available with Kia’s 7.0- or 8.0-inch touchscreen HMI (human-machine interface), with navigation, Kia Connected Services powered by TomTom®, and rear-view parking camera. The new HMI also incorporates Apple CarPlay™ and Android Auto™ for full smartphone integration. Android Auto™ is designed to work with Android phones running 5.0 (Lollipop) or higher; Apple CarPlay™, for iPhone 5 or newer.

DRiVE WISE advanced driver assistance systems are also available in the Carens for the first time, including Blind Spot Detection with Rear Cross Traffic Alert, and a Speed Limit Information Function which displays the current speed limit in the driver’s instrument binnacle. With the updated model, Carens buyers can now specify a new JBL® Premium Sound system, which features a subwoofer, external amplifier and four speakers for greater audio quality throughout the cabin.

New Eco Pack available

Kia has engineered a new Eco Pack for the 85kW 1.7-litre diesel engine, incorporating Idle Stop/Go (ISG) technology, Michelin low rolling resistance tyres, and a series of revised gear ratios. The most economical engine in the Carens line-up, the ISG-equipped Carens is now capable of producing carbon dioxide emissions as low as 109 g/km when paired with the car’s six-speed manual transmission (combined, New European Driving Cycle).

2017 Kia Carens on sale from beginning of October

The upgraded Kia Carens will be on sale across Kia’s European dealer network following its unveiling in Paris with the company’s unique 7-Year, 150,000 km warranty as standard.

Hyundai has substantially upgraded its stylish, sophisticated and award-winning Sonata range. Enhancements to Sonata’s already outstanding equipment levels include sporty steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters and premium tyres on all three variants.

Additionally, mid-level Sonata Elite gains rain-sensing wipers, heated front seats, front parking assist system and an electronic parking brake with auto-hold function. Previously available only as standard equipment on Sonata’s Premium flagship, Hyundai’s expansive twin-panel panoramic glass sunroof becomes optional on Sonata Elite.

Sonata Premium acquires a comprehensive suite of advanced safety features which augment its already comprehensive electronic safety aids. Blind Spot Detection, Lane Departure Warning System, Lane Change Assist, Rear Cross Traffic Alert and advanced Smart Cruise Control are now standard equipment on Sonata’s flagship Premium.

Sonata Active and Elite’s standard 17-inch alloy wheels now come fitted standard with 215/55R17 Continental Conti Premium Contact™ 5 tyres, while Sonata Premium’s 18-inch alloys now come shod with 235/45R18 Michelin Pilot 3 tyres. The switch to new tyre brands for Sonata is best explained by Hee Loong Wong (aka ‘Wongy’), Hyundai Motor Company Australia’s General Manager Product Engineering:

“We were very happy with our Australian-focused suspension tune of the all-new Sonata, including the tyres, when we released it last year,” Wongy says. “However, earlier this year Hyundai head office, in South Korea, gave us the option of testing the Continentals and Michelins on the car, and we jumped at the opportunity.

“We engaged former Hyundai WRC driver Chris Atkinson to evaluate them at the limit of adhesion under controlled conditions. His feedback, along with that of HMCA chief test driver Andrew Tuitahi, was very pleasing. We have seen gains in outright grip level, ride comfort and quietness.”

Model-year 2017 Sonata also offers a new palate of striking exterior colours including distinctive metallic/mica Shade Bronze. Beige leather interior trim is optionally available on Sonata Elite and Premium variants featuring White Cream, Midnight Black or Shade Bronze exterior paint.

Sonata is Hyundai’s longest-serving nameplate in Australia. The seventh-generation Sonata has received critical acclaim for its award-winning looks, class-leading performance, extensive equipment and features lists, together with its ‘large-car roomy’ interior and spacious 510-litre boot (with full-size spare alloy wheel).

Major international awards for Sonata’s 2.0 Fluidic Sculpture styling include a coveted Red Dot Design Award for Outstanding Design and a Good Design Award, the world’s premier award for innovation and cutting-edge industrial, product and graphic product design.

Sonata’s strong value-for-money equation and owner-focused after-sales service credentials include Hyundai’s benchmark 5-year/unlimited kilometre warranty and award-winning iCare Customer Care Program.

The Nissan JUKE-R set a benchmark in 2011 as the world’s first crossover supercar, marrying Nissan’s innovative JUKE with the engine and running gear from the legendary Nissan GT-R – the brand’s flagship sportscar. Now four years on, JUKE-R has been given an exciting upgrade to reflect the latest model of the JUKE coupled with even more power and bolder styling – welcome the JUKE-R 2.0. The global debut of the JUKE-R 2.0 will take place at the thrilling annual Goodwood Festival of Speed on Thursday 25 June on the Nissan stand, before being displayed in the Supercar Paddock for the remainder of the weekend.

Visitors at Goodwood, along with those watching the spectacular event on television, will also witness the JUKE-R 2.0 make its dynamic debut on Goodwood’s Hillclimb on all three days of the event, driven by Nissan GT Academy graduate and Le Mans 24 Hours driver, Jann Mardenborough. Based on the updated Nissan JUKE launched in 2014 that features several significant design and technical enhancements, the JUKE-R 2.0 has been injected with further levels of GT-R testosterone to now reach 600hp. Still sporting the iconic ‘R’ matt black, the JUKE-R 2.0 is an even more muscular, bolder and powerful version of its predecessor.

“The JUKE-R has become an iconic crossover supercar and with the launch of the latest JUKE model last year, it was the natural choice to upgrade the original JUKE-R with added power and even bolder styling,” said Gareth Dunsmore, Marketing Communications General Manager for Nissan Europe. “The JUKE-R 2.0 is a perfect ‘crossover’ of the best bits of Nissan – real innovation showcasing our crossover prowess fused with the excitement of the GT-R supercar engine.”

Soon to celebrate the JUKE’s fifth anniversary of production, the JUKE-R 2.0 arrives in time to celebrate the birthday of Europe’s best loved compact crossover. With over 600,000 sales across Europe since initially launched in 2010*, the JUKE continues to highlight Nissan’s position as crossover leaders, alongside the award winning QASHQAI and adventure-inspiring X-TRAIL.

*The JUKE was launched in Australia in October 2013.

Nissan JUKE-R 2.0 Specification

The JUKE-R was based on the original JUKE production car launched in 2010. The JUKE-R 2.0 is based on the newer JUKE model launched in 2014 to which there were several significant design changes and also technical enhancements. One of these elements was the extensive personalisation options introduced based on customers' desire. There was also a new lamp shape, LED running lights and LED bulbs in the taillights to give a fresh appearance, while new door mirrors incorporate LED side turn repeaters. The new Nissan V-motion grille at the front is a further feature.

Specific updates/features on the Nissan JUKE-R 2.0 include:

  • Front bumper; heavily redesigned both aesthetically and functionally. The cooling apertures in the front bumper are increased in size by over 100% due to increased engine cooling demand as the vehicle now runs with an uprated 600bhp engine. The bumper is manufactured from 100% carbon fibre
  • Rear bumper; manufactured entirely from carbon fibre, but incorporates a visual carbon diffuser. The bumper will have new exhaust cowlings; these are manufactured from high temperature carbon
  • The rear winglets are now of a one piece carbon fibre design with a visual carbon finish
  • The front fenders are new shape MY2015 JUKE and from standard steel
  • The front and rear fender wheel arch flares are new carbon pieces blended in to the bumper and sill designs
  • The side sills are a tweaked aesthetic design, manufactured from carbon fibre
  • The front headlights, upper and lower, are from the new MY2015 JUKE
  • The tail-lights are also from the MY2015 JUKE
  • The bonnet is from the new MY2015 JUKE and has integrated bare carbon engine cooling ducts - these are slightly repositioned from the previous JUKE-R to further improve engine and turbo cooling
  • •The JUKE-R 2.0 uses the newer design GT-R wheels rather than the previous version
  • Colour is matte black as before

No change, other than roof lining is now black.

The GT-R engine has been uprated to 600bhp - the same output as the ultimate GT-R, the NISMO.

The headlights, tail lights and daytime running lights (DRLs) required the wiring looms of the original car to be updated to accommodate Nissan's latest lighting technology.

The power increases are effective on all Model Year 2015 Audi A3 vehicles. The entry-level $35,900 A3 Sportback 1.4 TFSI model is now endowed with 92kW (from 90kW), with a drop in fuel consumption to 4.9 litres per 100km. The entry 1.6 TDI model also benefits from a power increase, to 81kW (from 77kW). A3 Sportback, Sedan and Cabriolet models equipped with the 1.4 TFSI engine with Cylinder on Demand technology (COD) now have a peak power of 110kW, with the same class-leading fuel efficiency of 4.7 litres per 100km (Sportback and Sedan).

Audi A3 Sportback and Sedan 2.0 TDI models have the same punchy 110kW/350Nm output, with a drop of 0.1L/100km in fuel consumption for a figure of 4.4 litres per 100km. All A3 1.8 TFSI quattro models also feature a drop in consumption of 0.1L/100km.

The dynamic S3 Sportback, Sedan and Cabriolet performance models are powered by a 2.0 TFSI engine with 210kW (from 206kW). This delivers outstanding acceleration performance of as quick as 5.0 seconds from rest to 100km/h. 2014 has been an extraordinary year for the Audi A3 range, with total local sales reaching 5,149 to the end of 2014. With all variants combined, it is the biggest selling model range for Audi in Australia. The Audi A3 model series was crowned the World Car of the Year in April, and the A3 Sportback 1.4 TFSI with Cylinder on Demand technology (COD) picked up its second consecutive Australia’s Small Car over $35,000 award last week, to remain undefeated in its class.
