Euro NCAP has released the safety ratings of four new cars . Both the Audi A6 and the VW Touareg achieve a maximum five- star rating, the Ford Tourneo Connect achieves a solid four-star rating and the new Suzuki Jimny scores three stars.
The Audi A6 and the VW Touareg score particularly well for vulnerable road user protection including Euro NCAP’s new requirements for cyclist-detecting AEB. The Ford Tourneo Connect compact panel van is an updated version of the vehicle last tested in 2013. The car achieves a solid four stars against the 2018 requirements. The updated Tourneo Connect is equipped with AEB and lane support as standard, even for commercial variants, making it stand out amid competition in this segment. The Suzuki Jimny scores a three-star rating, let down by its underwhelming driver assistance systems.
Michiel van Ratingen, Secretary General of Euro NCAP said,
“Overall, these latest results demonstrate that, as Euro NCAP’s test protocols evolve and become more demanding, a 5-star rating remains an achievable although challenging objective for the auto industry.

Euro NCAP has now tested 6 models which feature this life saving technology. These driver assistance systems are the building blocks for potential automation in the future. Suzuki Motor Corporation - Japan have confirmed the release of the next generation Jimny for the Australian market.
The all-new Jimny fully embodies the core character of a small, lightweight 4WD vehicle following nearly 50 years of worldwide popularity.
Featuring a functional exterior and interior, ladder frame body, advanced ALLGRIP PRO 4WD system with reduction gear and rough road ability.
The all-new Jimny will boast a four cylinder 1.5L engine, with ample torque at low revolutions maintaining off-road driving performance as well as enhanced fuel economy.
Furthermore, other confirmed specifications include high beam assist, daytime running lights (DRLs) and multimedia satellite navigation featuring Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. In addition, the next generation Jimny will also feature hill hold and hill decent controls as standard.
Safety has been put at the forefront of the design, creating a modern car for modern needs with front dual, side and certain airbags, Dual Sensor Brake Support and Electronic Stability Control (ESP).
Chief Engineer for the next generation Jimny Hiroyuki Yonezawa said the development team were up for the challenge to make the new Jimny more attractive than ever.

The all-new Suzuki Swift Sport made its Australian debut at the official press launch at the State Motorcycle Sports Complex in Broadford Victoria. Australian Media professionals were given the opportunity to race down straights and hug corners in Suzuki’s hot new Turbo-charged hatch and also had the pleasure of witnessing Australian Superbike Champion, Josh Waters, scream around the track on his full race spec Suzuki GSX-R1000R. Josh Waters is the official Team Suzuki Superbike Racer and avid ambassador of the Suzuki brand; having Josh at the media launch was a nod to Suzuki’s sporting DNA across its product lines with both the GSX-R1000R and Swift Sport racing back to back on the Broadford race track.
The latest generation of the Swift Sport brings with it a myriad of changes which include a BOOSTERJET direct injection turbo engine, a lower and wider stance, aggressive styling, and new safety and technological features which catapult the Sport into true hot hatch territory.
Swift Sport’s 1.4L BOOSTERJET direct injection turbo engine boasts 7-hole injector nozzles enabling higher pressure and atomised fuel injection for more powerful engine output and a cleaner exhaust, while the sophisticated wastegate valve control constantly monitors boost pressure to minimise fuel consumption whilst cruising, offering a fuel consumption of just 6.1L/100km.*

Suzuki Motor Corporation’s all-new Swift Sport has made its global debut during a press conference at the 67th IAA Frankfurt Motor Show on September 12.
The latest generation of the Swift Sport brings with it a myriad of changes which include a lower, wider stance, more aggressive styling, and a torque-to-weight ratio that catapults the Sport into true hot hatch territory.
Engineers have also bid adieu to the 1.6L naturally-aspirated motor in favour of the same 1.4L Boosterjet turbo engine seen in Vitara; a welcome addition to an increasingly powerful line-up with turbo now available in five models across the range. That, coupled with compact dimensions and a kerb weight that’s sub one-tonne should be music to the ears of sports-minded drivers.
Swift Sport chief engineer Masao Kobori said, “We know that our customers value a dynamic driving experience above everything else, so for the third-generation Swift Sport our development concept was Ultimate Driving Excitement.”
Kobori continued, “It’s lighter, sharper, and quicker. It’s more aggressive and emotive, but we’ve also refined the elements that make it practical to use every day—the clutch feel, the manual transmission shift throw, the seats and steering wheel. Everything that puts the driver at the heart of the experience.”
Whilst power and appearance were obvious key considerations, so too were safety and technology with the Sport featuring a Bluetooth®-compatible Smartphone Linkage Display Audio Display unit with a multimedia 7-inch touchscreen and sat nav together with advanced safety including lane departure warning, weaving alert, adaptive cruise and high beam assist.

Totally rebuilt and refined from the ground up, the highly anticipated all new Swift has now officially launched in Australia. After much speculation in the lead up, the four available grades are the GL, GL Navigator, GL Navigator with Safety Pack, and GLX.
Short, low, and wide – proportions that tell of a low centre of gravity and muscular form embody the Swift’s new powerful presence. Whilst key styling elements such as the wraparound window, vertical headlamps, and solid shoulder lines have remained, Suzuki has introduced stronger fender lines, a higher nose and wider grille for a commanding appearance, blacked-out pillars creating the look of a floating roof, and has improved the overall proportions via reduced height and a longer wheelbase.
Under the hood, the GL offers a 1.2-litre Dualjet engine with the option of 5-speed manual or CVT automatic transmission, with the top-spec GLX flaunting 6-speed auto alongside a newly-developed Boosterjet engine with direct-injection, turbocharging, and downsized displacement, generating higher torque from lower revs.
The key development term used throughout the design of the new Swift was innovation and as a result, Swift Chief Engineer, Mr Masao Kobori, has introduced an exciting new-generation platform and engineered a completely new chassis, body structure, and powertrain.
Tempered on the roads of Europe, the Swift rests on a nimble and agile Heartect platform delivering enhanced vehicle performance through its lightweight and rigid frame. So lightweight in fact, that the new underbody weighs 30kgs less than the one it replaces, fostering lower fuel consumption and better overall vehicle performance.
As an added safety blanket for consumers utilising the new Swift to its full potential - and in addition to ABS, EBD, and BA standard across the range - the top two grades also feature Suzuki’s first application of a forward detection system using the combination of a monocular camera and laser sensor attached to the windshield. Further enhancing peace of mind are a lane departure warning function, a weaving alert function and another Suzuki first – high beam assist.
The stylish new interior has been created with driver comfort in mind, the idea being a sportier appearance without compromising the functional aspects of the car. Suzuki Australia has announced the all new Baleno which is now on sale in Australia. Suzuki’s new small hatch competitor redefines great value compact motoring in Australia, with the Baleno GL Automatic starting from just $17,990 Drive Away. The all new Baleno small hatch features more passenger space and legroom than the smaller Swift, whilst having a large cargo area with 355 litres of boot space, similar to a Corolla hatch boot and bigger than Mazda3 hatch’s boot.
The stylish Baleno, with flowing lines customary of small segment hatchbacks, will also be available with Suzuki’s Boosterjet turbo engine. The Baleno GLX turbo boasts a better power to weight ratio than the Corolla, whilst returning outstanding fuel economy of just 5.2L/100km. Suzuki is continuing its position as a leader in Satellite Navigation, with every Baleno in the line up fitted with the same multimedia unit as Vitara, including Satellite Navigation and Apple CarPlay.

Suzuki Australia has launched the first of their raft of new products, with the all new Celerio Micro car. Following Celerio, in the third quarter of 2015 Suzuki will reprise the iconic Vitara brand, with a cutting edge small SUV that has drawn considerable applause throughout its debut at various International Motor Shows. Vitara will add incremental sales and assist Suzuki Australia to progress through a new era of growth.

The Celerio has significant upgrades to the vehicle it replaces, the outgoing Alto, which when launched in 2009, pioneered this new segment and at its peak was selling in excess of 300 units per month, enticing many new players into the Micro market. “Suzuki, a company that was founded in 1909 and produced almost 3,000,000 vehicles in 2014, has been a leading manufacturer of small and compact cars, developing technology for sporty, fuel efficient engines with renowned reliability,” said Suzuki Australia General Manager, Andrew Moore. Moore said Suzuki has created even higher levels of comfort, space and quality, in a car that is 50kgs lighter than its predecessor. The Celerio will be produced in Suzuki’s newest Production Plant at Rayong, in Thailand. “The all new Celerio is the epitome of Suzuki’s philosophy, that driving a compact car does not mean having to settle for less,” said Moore.

All this is defined by a real world value package of $13,990 Drive Away, including CVT automatic transmission and $12,990 for the manual transmission. Both variants have standard features including 6 airbags, ABS and ESC, plus Bluetooth hands-free with full audio streaming. In line with Suzuki’s core value of creating great value cars with leading fuel economy, Celerio M/T uses just 4.7L and A/T 4.8L per 100klms. Whilst CO2 emissions run at 108g/km for M/T and 112g for A/T. The interior design has a more quality feel and together with a 10% increase in overall interior space, makes Celerio one of the roomiest for cabin space and with 254 litres of luggage capacity it is “best in class” for cargo space. Celerio has 10% more space than Mirage and 50% more than Barina Spark. In addition the tailgate has been redesigned to improve the aperture, for easier loading. Also enhancing comfort levels is improved NVH. Celerio is 100mm longer than Alto, 70mm higher and with a greater wheelbase almost identical to Swift, all passengers receive more headroom, with rear headroom increasing by 53mm and rear shoulder room up by 60mm. In addition, rear leg room is increased with an additional 55mm between front and rear passengers. Suzuki’s high seat position in combination with the extra space, makes for easy ingress and egress. This is a distinct advantage over the competition and a clear benefit for the proposed buyer profile, encompassing younger individuals, older couples and inner-city dwellers. Suzuki’s high levels of customer satisfaction will be further enhanced with Celerio’s low ownership costs, incorporating Capped Price Service program.
